It is legally required by the state of Tennessee that any painting or construction done that exceeds $3,000 in total project costs (labor + materials) must be completed by a licensed contractor. In order to become licensed, the individual must show proof qualified experience, obtain a bond and liability insurance, and pass a background check. There are many painters out there operating without a license, nor insurance of any kind for that matter. It is risky for a homeowner to hire an unlicensed and uninsured painter because at the end of the day, the homeowner will be legally responsible for any injury that occurs on their property. So why a licensed painter? Because a licensed painter shows responsibility, experience, and liability!
