Why a Licensed Painter?

Updated: Mar 24, 2019

It is legally required by the state of California that any painting or construction done that exceeds $500 in total project costs (labor + materials) must be completed by a licensed contractor. In order to become licensed, the individual must show proof of at least 4 years documented full time experience in the field. In addition, he/she must pass a written exam as well as a background check. Once that is completed, they are required to obtain a bond for liability purposes. There are many painters out there operating without a license, nor insurance of any kind for that matter. It is risky for a homeowner to hire an unlicensed and uninsured painter because at the end of the day, the homeowner will be legally responsible for any injury that occurs on their property. So why a licensed painter? Because a licensed painter shows responsibility, experience, and liability!
